Common Faucet & Sink Problems
Recognize the symptoms and understand what may need attention.

Dripping faucet
Worn cartridges, seals or valve seats can let water through after a tap is closed. The correct part depends on the brand and model.

Leak beneath the sink
Supply hoses, shutoff valves, drain joints and the sink rim can all wet a cabinet. Dry accessible surfaces and watch when the leak returns.

Poor or uneven flow
An aerator restriction may affect only one tap. A sudden change across several fixtures needs a broader pressure or supply assessment.
Identify the source
Compare water appearing during supply pressure with water appearing only while draining. Place a container under a small accessible drip and stop use if the cabinet continues to get wet. Do not tighten brittle plastic or corroded metal blindly.
Match parts to the fixture
Find the fixture model or photograph the handle and spout before obtaining parts. Turn off the appropriate supply and confirm the water is off before attempting a manufacturer-approved minor task. Stop if the shutoff will not operate.
Protect the cabinet and counter
A provider may replace a cartridge, connector, basket strainer, trap or entire fixture. Ask whether damaged cabinet material needs separate drying or restoration. Persistent moisture should not be covered up before the source is corrected.
When to Call a Professional
Seek assessment when symptoms persist, the source is uncertain or a safe owner check does not resolve the issue.
- Persistent or recurring: dripping faucet
- Persistent or recurring: leak beneath the sink
- Persistent or recurring: poor or uneven flow
- Water reaching electrical equipment
- Work involving gas, concealed pipes or sewage
- A shutoff that will not operate safely
Keep clear of wet electrical areas and sewage. If you suspect a gas leak, leave without operating switches and contact the gas utility or emergency services from a safe location. Never cap a water heater relief valve.
